"Jerry's Kids" Take Spotlight for Labor Day Telethon_ Legendary entertainer Jerry Lewis is rounding up some of his famous friends once again for his annual Labor Day Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Starting Sunday, September 5th at 9:00 pm Eastern, this year's telethon will originate from the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas and conclude on Labor Day Monday, September 6th at 6:30 pm Eastern. Lewis, who is also MDA's National Chairman, will headline the show. "Biggest Loser" host Alison Sweeney and TV personalities Nancy O'Dell and Jann Carl will assist in co-hosting the 21-and-a-half-hour event. Look for appearances from cast members from the Emmy winning Fox series "Glee," as well as performances from artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Enrique Iglesias, David Archuleta, Barry Manilow, Tony Orlando, Charo, Taylor Dane and others. Man Sentenced Over Letterman Blackmail Released_ The former television producer who tried to blackmail late-night talk-show host David Letterman is out of jail. According to the New York City Department of Corrections, Robert "Joe" Halderman was freed this morning. Halderman served four months of his six-month sentence. The 52-year-old former TV executive admitted earlier this year that he had tried to extort two-million dollars from Letterman by saying he would release information about the late-night funnyman's office affairs if he didn't pay up. The incident led Letterman to admit on his show that he had engaged in sexual relationships with some of his female staff members. Tiger Gets a Bachelor Pad_ Now that his divorce is finalized, Tiger Woods has moved into a brand new bachelor pad in New York City. A source told UsMagazine.com that the golf pro officially moved into the downtown apartment over the weekend and was “introducing himself as the new neighbor.” After his numerous extramarital affairs were made public last year, Woods split from wife Elin Nordegren. Their divorce was finalized last Monday. Nordegren – with whom Woods has two children – will split her time between the family’s Orlando-area home and her native Sweden. Bristol Palin Explains Why She's Dancing_ Bristol Palin, former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter, spoke to UsWeekly Monday night about her decision to join the new season of Dancing with the Stars. "I just wanted to do it because it's so fun," the 19-year-old single mom said. "It's positive and it's a good competition. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and have a good time." She said the most challenging thing for her will be showing her personality and moving her hips. Just don’t expect her to wear those revealing costumes. “I know that mine will be the most conservative -- I will be the most dressed. That's how I am and that's how I want to dress,” she said. Bristol also said her mom is completely supportive of her decision to participate in the show. Emmy Award Winners_ ABC's take on the "Modern Family" is getting a warm embrace from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The freshman sitcom stole the show and the Outstanding Comedy category at the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night. "Modern Family" bested three-time Emmy champion "30 Rock" to nab the top honor. The series also picked up awards for Outstanding Comedy Writing and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Eric Stonestreet who plays one of the show's two gay fathers. AMC's ad executive series "Mad Men" continued its winning streak in the Outstanding Drama category. "Mad Men" snagged its third consecutive win for Outstanding Drama on Sunday night. "Breaking Bad's" Bryan Cranston also managed to make it three in a row in the category for Outstanding Actor in a Drama. Nominated for 19 Emmys, rookie Fox comedy "Glee" managed to pull in a few honors. "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy picked up his first Emmy for directing, while star Jane Lynch took the honor for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role as tough-as-nails high school cheer squad coach Sue Sylvester. "Last Exorcism" Leads Weekend Box Office_ "The Last Exorcism" edged out "Takers" by a haunting margin at the box office over the weekend. Lionsgate's horror flick bested "Takers," a high-style heist film starring Idris Elba, Chris Brown, and Hayden Christensen, by only 300-thousand dollars. "Exorcism" earned 21-point-three-million dollars to "Takers" take of 21-million. In third place, was Sylvester Stallone's action comeback "The Expendables" with nine-point-five-million dollars in receipts. The film adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir "Eat, Pray, Love" earned another seven-million dollars to take fourth place. Holding a spot in the top five was the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg comedy "The Other Guys" with six-point-six million dollars in ticket sales. Meanwhile, "Inception" starring Leonardo DiCaprio moved up from ninth to seventh. "Inception" remains in the top ten after its July 16th release and has racked up nearly 271-million dollars in ticket sales so far. |
