Road Assessments for the MVD by the Portales Police Department

The Portales Police Department is starting to conduct Road Assessments for the MVD’s Driver’s Tests. The Road Assessments will be scheduled by appointment only; absolutely NO WALK-INS. To register for a road assessment, a form provided at the Portales Police Department will need to be completed, along with a payment of $35.00. This payment is a non-refundable registration fee, and applicants must pay at the time of registration.
Hours for registration are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Payment is to be made by check or money order made out to the City of Portales.
Requirements for the test date include; the applicant’s learner’s permit, an operable vehicle, valid registration, insurance, and the identification card of the applicant’s parent / guardian. A face mask is MANDATORY. February 26th, 2021, will be the date of the first road assessment. The registration deadline for this date will be on February 19th, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. Scheduling for road assessments after March 1st will be on the first two Fridays of every month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are taking COVID safety measurements to ensure we keep testers and the community safe.
